me and are working on a new comic, which is going to be a space opera . I decided to color up a concept sketch of one of the characters. I named her Molly. She's an intern who kind of regrets taking a job on a space ship in space! Hilarity ensues, and then we all learn a nice lesson about life.
I was gonna put science stuff on the whiteboard, but then I decided. Lava monster. because I could.
Meh well I don't care about hiding it well. Let the fans be in on the joke. as long as you don't do it so much that people put more attention to the hidden stuff and ignore the actual stuff its fine. Lolcats gets away with the running dealie of the H in sunrays cause his stuff is all one panel jokes, but I find the "pineapple" stuff in Psych distracting. They have ads where they tell you that yes the pinapple thing is a running gag, see if you can find it in tonights ep. so anytime theres a pinapple around its like hey PINEAPPLE!!! wait whats going on again?
I think they hide it so that they can get away with it, y'know? We obviously don't have that problem since we're self published.
And, yeah, I figure that we can just have lava monsters in there and just not ever mention anything to do with DI. Therefore it makes anyone who read DI feel special and have an extra joke for them but it doesn't bother anyone else.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
